Guest Cottage available for vacation rental

We are so pleased to offer our guest house as a vacation rental. Cozy, kitchy, and cheerful. No TV, no internet– and you won’t miss them. This swingin’ singlewide has been lovingly restored. A total getaway. DSC02179The kitchenette is stocked with 1950s necessities– including ice bucket and crusher– and you’ll have homemade granola and locally roasted coffee waiting for you. The large porch opens up to beautiful views of mountains and a majestic 200 year old White Oak tree. The eat-in kitchen opens to a comfortable living room, stocked with board games, puzzles, and books.7 kitchen 1The larger bedroom, “The Gladys Suite”, named after Elvis’s mother, has a double bed. The smaller bedroom has a twin bed.The cottage is on a 19th C. homestead, about 900 feet above the valley. Watch wild turkeys, red-foxes, and songbirds off the porch in the early morning. Visit our rare heritage-breed sheep and regular chickens during the day. We’re always happy to let children help feed the animals, and our children are happy to share their sandbox, zip-line, teepee, swings, and chickens. We also have plenty of space to store your gear–skis, snowboards, canoes, backpacks, kayaks, hang-gliders, etc. And we can provide covered parking should the weather turn sour.front of cottageLocated in a neighborhood of wineries, breweries, sustainable farms, and artisans, there are always interesting things to see, listen to, and consume.

The cottage is a 5 minute walk (.3 miles) to Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company and restaurant, .7 miles to Wintergreen Winery, and a mile walk on public footpaths to Bold Rock Cidery and Brew Pub (tastings and tours), and 2.5 miles to Wild Wolf Brewery and Restaurant. Many, many other wineries and breweries within a short drive. We’re located close to the many excellent restaurants of Nellysford, 25 minutes from Waynesboro and its fabulous Tailgate Grill and splendid Kline’s icecream, and only 35 minutes from Charlottesville and the University of Virginia. And only a three minute drive to Valleymont Market, which stocks organic and non-organic basics, and local breads, coffees, and pastries.9 smaller bedroom

Pick apples, peaches, berries, or pumpkins at one of the many local farms. Drop by our bountiful Saturday’s farmer’s market. Visit the studios on the Monticello Artisian Network. Swim to the tiny island in lovely Sherando Lake, the legacy of the WPA. Visit the Rockfish Valley Natural History Museum, less than two miles away.

DSC00478 copyWalk out the door to 4 miles of public footpaths on the stunning Rockfish Valley Loop, which goes through farmlands, along streams and rivers, and through wetlands, all surrounded by a ring of purple mountains. Or drive 8 minutes to where the Appalachian trail crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway. In addition to many Parkway hikes, the magnificent Crabtree Falls is just 20 minutes south and Skyline Drive National Park is 20 minutes north.8 kitchen 2

We love our beautiful neighborhood and are happy to give you directions to these unique places, and many others. We live on the farm, so we’re always available for any questions you might have.

The cottage can accommodate a fourth guest on an air mattress for an additional $30 per night. This absolutely must be arranged with us ahead of time so that it can be reflected in the Airbnb reservation and bill.
